Each font designer follows his or her own path to become a professional in this field.
What they share in common might be the passion for and dogged pursuit of their font-creating career.
Today the owner of Mrletters shop‘s here to have a small talk with us about how he become a font designer.
Hey man, we’re all ears!
Hi, could you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Muhammad Rizal. I’m a graphic designer coming from Aceh province, Indonesia. I’m currently focusing on designing fonts and have an online shop on MakiPlace. It’s Mrletters.
What are you selling? Why and how did you make it?
I create and sell fonts, of course digitally. I’m now in the process of developing products with brush lettering.
Like any other designer, what challenges me, but also motivates me a lot, is how to blow a wind of change in every design. Therefore, I never give up going out there observing and learning from others to create attractive designs of my own.
Where do your ideas come from?
Actually, there are many things that inspire me. Among them, my friends are the ones that really count. They’re a rich source of inspiration. They advise me to create fonts, for they know that I have long developed myself in the field of graphic design. I truly appreciate them and their support, which is an important factor in my career development.
Any tips for designers and developers on selling their stuff?
I’d like to say that keep on working and learning is the most helpful tip, especially for the beginners in the field.
Design, whatever your idea about it is, is an industry that never stops changing. There will always new trends and excellent people who set those trends out there. So to not be left behind, keep learning and working is of great necessity. Learning from other designers or from your past experience are both good ways of updating yourself.
Which feature would you like to see on MakiPlace?
Currently, I focus on just doing the font. So I will appreciate any feature that makes font selling easier.
What are your favorite resources for design and development?
Again, it’s my friends. We normally talk with each other to find new ideas for fonts. Then we discuss to see which one is the best. I’m so glad that I have those friends for companionship and advice. Together, we will create better and better products.
Personally. what distinguishes one font designer from others is not only his own story but also his aesthetic taste shown in every product. Let’s discover which style Mrletters shop’s owner has chosen for himself.
