A font creator can be described as a person who not only appreciates the artistic beauty of letters but also relentlessly creates that beauty.
Maybe because of that, becoming a font designer is what Alde chooses to pursue.
This is our interesting talk with Alde. He probably not only speaks his mind but also others’.
Hi, could you tell us a little about yourself?
My name’s Alde from Indonesia. Now I’m a full-time designer. My principle is that never stop learning and improving myself. I try to create some kinds of fonts every single day. Although I’m still a newbie here, as I think, that’s not a matter. I consider this as a continuous process to become successful.
What are you selling? Why and how did you make it?
I’m focused to design and sell fonts. There exists only one reason: This is my passion. I aspire to create “WOW” quirky fonts. I mean impressive and beautiful fonts that can be used in many fabulous designs of professional designers. Hope that one day I can see my fonts appear in a variety of projects all around the world.
How do you get inspired?
I was inspired by Mr. Shiro ( Lettersiro.co x ‘Amsterdam font’ ). I call him “sensei”, which is a Japanese word for “teacher”. He is a successful font creator, starting from scratch. So I want to follow his way. I have high hopes that someday I can become as good as him, or even better.
Once being filled with true inspiration, generating ideas for font designs is a fun. It’s sort of a process of discovering the surroundings – something seems familiar but not always the case. Great ideas can come to my mind from manga, comic or magazine. Sometimes, the “wow” things pop up when I’m in the street, on the beach or enjoy the nature.
Any tips for designers and developers on selling their stuff?
What about sales with combined packages and subscription systems?
In my opinion, this one is more appropriate for customers. They will choose the best one for them. A new member with a limited budget would be happy with the subscription system. Or someone might need to buy a full package for their convenience. Although more customers may be required to subscribe and sign up, I think there is still a good prospect.
Which feature would you like to see on MakiPlace?
Chat with customers – this is undoubtedly an excellent feature. I think it can help to provide customers with the best services. It’s like a bridge to connect me and my customers so that their voice can be heard faster and better.
What are your favorite resources for design and development?
Our team and my close friends are invaluable sources of ideas. Their expertise, practical experiences and viewpoints all do help me a lot.
By means of his burning passion and repeated attempt, Alde’s produced some amazing fonts on MakiPlace. We believe he will create many more awesome designs in the future. So hopefully you won’t mind going give him some encouragement at Aldedesign
